2427 Marching Band

2427 Squadron has a thriving marching band. In fact in 2014, the Biggin Hill band came second in a competition open to all 34 Squadrons in Kent Wing. The band has a wide range of instruments, from drum, to glockenspiels, and full brass and woodwind sections. In all the band has over 20 musicians, far more the most other bands in the Wing, and certainly one of the most varied. Most of the musicians are graded and classically trained, others taught themselves to play in their own time, and others, we taught ourselves.
The band is the public image of 2427, attending most events in the local area where the Squadron is asked to appear, be it a march through Biggin Hill high street, or a church fete, the 2427 marching band does it all.
Being in the band also presents itself with some rare opportunities. For example in the past cadets from the band have been invited on stage to play with the Central Band of the Royal Air Force in a concert, something not offered to most musicians.
The marching band is now one of the Squadrons greatest assets, and with a recent intake of new instruments, in 2015 the band promises to be better than ever.
