Aero Modelling Project

Aero Modelling Project

The cadets of the squadron have been building models for years, from AIRFIX type models to the fully functional radio controlled models. The cadets have been making not just aircraft, but also model cars, including radio controlled vehicles. For example the project is currently building a radio controlled Supermarine Spitfire, which is being made entirely by hand. The newly refurbished modelling room has all the facilities including personal work spaces, spot lighting and expert knowledge to hand. While the aero modelling project is a lot of fun, especially for those that enjoy model making, but the project does have its serious side. Every year Kent Wing ATC run a ‘Wing Field Day’ which is a day of lots of different competitions including shooting, marching bands, and drill. All of the Squadrons in the Wing come together to compete each other, to show what they can do. One of the many competitions run is the Aero-Modelling Competition, where each Squadron submits its best made model, and judges mark them on, finish, construction, and attention to detail.
